How to: Reinstall the OS on the Dell Powervault 715N

We have a small family of PowerVault 715N’s here at Crownhill. They’re lovely boxes, but reinstalling the OS on them is something of a black art

Admittedly it’s a long time since I ran a reinstall, but from memory, it must be done with a Windows 2000 client: XP just plain refused to work.

Dell’s article should cover everything you need to know.

THe restore CD has a Ghost image. It is PV715REC.NAS. This is a standard ghost file and can be restored using the ghostwo.exe file in the INSTALL directory. Once that is done, it takes about an hour once the drive is in the machine.

Shane, if I were you I’d ask Dell directly – possibly via your Account Manager. You’re more likely to get some sense out of them with a .mil address ;)

I cannot find my recovery disk anywhere, if anyone can post an image of the CD I would be very grateful!
