No, as is stated in the original post, you need an AirPcap.

Friseal,

I've come across that problem too. From memory, it's not Kismet, it's actually the AirPcap driver. I forget exactly how to fix it (and I can't replicate it at the moment) but try opening up the AirPcap Control Panel and having a play with the different Basic Configuration settings, including resetting the configuration.

I wish I could replicate it again so I could tell you exactly what to do!

Let me know how you get on :)

I've attempted to use Kismet with AirPcap, but can't seem to get it going correctly. Kismet claims to be discovering dozens of Infrastructure APs, but with "no SSID" and all sort of differnt BSSIDs. There also doesn't seem to be much written anywhere on exactly how to configure it.

Most sites indicate the need to compile Cygwin with the AirPcap drivers, but since CACE released a Kismet installation file for use with their AirPcap USB adapter, one would think that compiling had already been done. . .

[...] An AirPcap Wireless Capture adapter. This is a great little tool for 802.11 sniffing in Windows. You can even run Kismet with it! [...]
